Conseguimos um depoimento de fã que esteve presente no tão esperado hometown gig em Leicester. Confira abaixo o que Nicola Allen contou a respeito do show.

Bem, então, hoje a noite foi o grande “hometown gig” dos rapazes do Kasabian tocando na 02 Academy no coração da Universidade de Leicester. O show foi o segundo da Radio 1 Student Tour 2011, e todo mundo estava esperando por isso. Zane Lowe começou a noite no pequeno espaço principal da O2 com um set cheio de dubstep, ao mesmo tempo apresentou o seu show ao vivo na rádio. A pequena sala já traz uma atmosfera intensa – e os rapazes nem sequer haviam entrado no estágio. Tom Meighan (vocalista, Kasabian) surge em uma aparição enquanto Zane termina o seu set, proclamando a sua emoção por estar de volta em sua cidade natal antes de deixar o palco para ‘Invaders Must Die’. Rapidamente uma entrevista pré-gravada com Sergio Pizzorno (guitarra, Kasabian) do Live Lounge da manhã (também transmitido ao vivo) e é hora Kasabian. Zane Lowe tenta passar um pouco de segurança para multidão, dizendo-lhes para “cuidar uns dos outros” e introduz a banda. Club Foot surpreendentemente abre o set, certamente com um começo incrível. O “OOSH” memorável traz a multidão junta em uma união temporária que é mantida durante todo o show. A faixa de West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum, Where Did All Love The Go? assume a segunda posição no setlist seguido pelo lançamento do Velociraptor!, o novo álbum, com Days Are Forgotten, que começa com muito retorno do microfone do Tom. Tom claramente ficando irritado com o microfone, preso em um lugar no palco que certamente restringe o seu prazer na performance. Serge lança olhares simpáticos a seus companheiros de banda e também parece chateado com o áudio. No entanto, eles demonstram que o show tem que continuar e começam a sempre brilhante Shoot The Runner. Em seguida, a faixa-título do mais recente disco Velociraptor! é maravilhosamente cativante, como era quando eles tocaram no O2 Sheffield no lançamento do álbum. Até o momento da banda tocar Underdog o problema do microfone foi resolvido e deu para ver a banda realmente desfrutando essa relação incomparável com a multidão. O novo single Re-Wired é tão incrível ao vivo como esperado, um pouco sombrio e com certeza um hino, ao mesmo tempo. O riff de abertura de Empire segue a novata e ainda continua sendo uma das melhores músicas do Kasabian ao vivo. Tom tem a multidão comendo fora da palma de suas mãos agora, com eles cantando as letras de volta para a banda. Eles permanecem fiel às suas raízes, juntando-se gritos da multidão de “Leicestershire, la la la”. Man of Simple Pleasures traz a tona o ritmo do show perfeitamente e permite que Serge e Tom demonstrem seu estilo de dueto vocal. Este sentimento não dura muito tempo como a introdução dos sintetizadores de Switchblade Smiles. Facilmente a melhor música da noite, e fica ainda melhor com Sergio tirando o colete e ficando apenas com a camiseta. Tom olha de um jeito engraçado por cima do ombro para o seu companheiro de banda declarando “Menino Sexy! SERGIO!” – “Olha, se eu fosse gay, eu iria.” Quem não gosta de um pouco de uma brincadeira atrevida? Vlad The Impaler é como um irmão para Switchblade no setlist, com o riff de baixo que faz toda a multidão saltar de novo. O set principal termina com Fire, outra canção incrível ao vivo. Antes de terminar Tom declara que está se sentindo “muito emocionado” – mas é difícil não ver a emoção nos olhos da banda. Kasabian desapareceu nos bastidores por um curto período antes de voltar com um bis impressionante de Goodbye Kiss dedicado ao recentemente demitido Sven Goran Eriksson, antes de concluir o set com L.S.F., eterno clássico para todos com os intermináveis “La la la la la.” Tudo durante toda a noite foi clássico e memorável, apesar do show curto (1h e 15min). Foi mais especial ainda por conta da longa fila para os bilhetes algumas semanas atrás, ou porque era uma volta para casa, mas ninguém nunca vai saber. Uma coisa é certa, no entanto, Kasabian ainda deixa os cidadãos de Leicester orgulhosos.

Once again we got a report about a gig. And this time, even more special because this is about the homecoming gig on this week. Nicola Allen shared with us all about the unfogettable moment.

Kasabian: O2 Academy – Leicester, England 26/10/2011 [ ENG ]

So tonight was the big homecoming for the boys of Kasabian, performing at the brand new O2 Academy in the heart of the University of Leicester campus. The gig was the second of three gigs on the Radio 1 Student Tour 2011, and everyone is certainly buzzing for it. Zane Lowe kicks off the night in the tiny main room of the O2 with a dubstep filled DJ set, whilst also presenting his show live on the airwaves. It’s the small room which already brings about an intense atmosphere – and the boys haven’t even taken to the stage yet. Tom Meighan (vox, Kasabian) puts in a guest appearance as Zane finishes up his set, proclaiming his excitement to be back in his birthplace before leaving the stage to ‘Invaders Must Die’. A quick blast of a pre-recorded interview with Sergio Pizzorno (guitar, Kasabian) from the morning’s Live Lounge (also streamed live) and it’s Kasabian time. Zane Lowe persuades a bit of crowd safety, telling them to “look after one another” and introduces the band. Club Foot surprisingly opens the set but certainly gets it off to a thumping start. The memorable “oosh” brings the crowd together into a temporary union that is maintained throughout the whole set. West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum track Where Did All The Love Go? takes the second position on the setlist followed by the second release from new album Velociraptor!, Days Are Forgotten which starts with a lot of feedback from Tom’s microphone. Swearing frantically at the tech guy behind the desk Tom’s clearly getting annoyed with the microphone, stuck in one place on the stage which certainly restricts his enjoyment in the performance. Serge throws sympathetic looks to his band mates and also looks upset with the audio. However they demonstrate that the show must go on and burst into the ever brilliant Shoot The Runner. Title track of the latest record Velociraptor! is song six and is still beautifully catchy, as it was when they played Sheffield O2 ahead of the album release. By the time the band play Underdog the squeaky mic seems to have sorted itself out and you can see the band really enjoying the set now and making that incomparable relationship with the crowd. New single Re-Wired is as incredible live as expected, somewhat dark and anthemic at the same time. The opening riff to Empire follows up the newbie and still remains one of Kasabian’s best live tracks. Tom has the crowd eating out of the palm of his hands now, with them chanting the lyrics back at the emotional band. The band also stay true to their roots, joining the crowd’s shouts of “Leicestershire, la la la”. Man of Simple Pleasures brings down the tempo of the gig perfectly, and allows Serge and Tom to demonstrate their duet-style vocals. This down tempo feel doesn’t last long as the synthy intro to Switchblade Smiles belts around the room. Easily the best song of the night, and made even better with Sergio removing the light shirt he has on, down to just a vest. Tom looks cutely over his shoulder at his band mate declaring “Sexy boy! SERGIO!” – “Listen, if I was gay, I would”. Who doesn’t love a bit of cheeky banter?! Vlad The Impaler sits like a brother to Switchblade… in the setlist with the bass riff, and the whole room bounces again. The main set ends with Fire, still another incredible live song by the band and an ideal end to the set. Before it kicks off Tom declares he’s feeling “very emotional” – but it’s difficult not to see the emotion in the band’s eyes. Kasabian disappear backstage for a short period before returning with a stunning encore of Goodbye Kiss dedicated to the recently sacked Sven Goran Eriksson, before concluding the set with L.S.F. – still very much a classic in everyone’s eyes if the never ending “laaa la la’s” are anything to go by. All in all a classic and memorable night, despite the short set (1h 15min). Whether it was made more special due to the lengthy queueing times for tickets a couple of weeks ago (10+ hours for some) or because it was a homecoming no one will ever know. One thing is for sure, however, Kasabian still remain to make Leicester citizens proud.
